Grafix February 2014 Featured Artist

What is your favorite medium?
My favorite medium would have to be paper. Whether using a plain white piece or an artistically printed piece of paper, it is the basis to most of the types of projects I make. You can paint on it, sew it, crumble it, the possibilities are endless. I think it’s easy to understand why it’s my favorite medium.
What is your artistic focus and which Grafix products do you use?
My artistic focus is mainly cards. I can do and make practically anything, but cards are my specialty. I think I look at them as mini, works of art. The Grafix products I use in my cards vary. I am in love with the Inkjet printable Shrink Film and the other Shrink Films Grafix offers. Shrink Film items are such a great way to add a personalized touch to any card project I am working on. The Vellum and Funky Film I have used from Grafix are my other favorites. All these products, I feel, give my projects a stand out look and that extra bit of “wow”.
What word best describes your style?
If I had to describe my style, I would say that I am a whimsical crafter. I love bold, bright, cheery and cutesy type things. I can create any style, but I tend to default to my whimsical style when I am given no boundaries. Oh and my favorite color? That would have to be Polka Dots of any kind!
What inspires you?
My favorite artist is Mary Engelbreit. Her style is so much of what I love; bright, colorful, happy, polka dots, checks. Her art and sayings she uses with her art are a huge inspiration to me. But people also inspire me. I love to help people realize their own design potential and love to share shortcuts, hints and doable ways for people to do what I do. I do not feel I have more talent than the person standing next to me, I just feel like I am not afraid to try new things and techniques.
I’m a native California girl. 7 kids, call me mom. They range in age from 23 down to 7 years of age, 4 boys and 3 girls. My hubby and I have survived, so far through 25 years of marriage. I have been scrapbooking/stamping /paper crafting through it all. I started crafting as a young mom to decorate my home on a very tight budget. From there I got into scrapbooking and card making and moved on to various forms of art and crafting as the trends changed.
Today, I have over 20 years of crafting experience. I am in love with crafts of all forms. Paper is my passion, my therapy. Cards, scrapping, home décor…I love it all. I have never met a piece of paper I can’t tame! Now, I say enough talking, let’s get crafting!
